gday guys,
looking at doing a two week trip from Tweed Heads up to either one of the places mentioned but would like some guidence first.
When does the area around shoalwater open?
Whats the best time of year for popping them areas?
If these areas are not accesible with 5.1 quinny with 100 horse where should fish?

Any locals or people that have fished and know the areas I would love to hear from u, but any info ould be much appreciated.

   thanks in advance

Hi Santosh,

Is that you fighting an AJ with a Synit and Stella? How does the Synit 450 compare with the Sevenseas Hiramasa?

Cheers

I own this rod with Stella SW10000 on it for more than 2 years now, as said, its a great rod for the price, suitable for poppers up to 120-130 grams max, i got the butt section shortened by 5 inches which makes it even more parabolic i guess. I wouldn't call it a light rod though, it weighs 445 grams, your other option from Shimano is SpeedMaster Kaibutsu Long Cast, its a newer model, lighter (383 grams) & cheaper.

Hi Mark,

I'd really like to thank you for your time in Tauranga over the weekend. We had a fantastic time and some great fishing.
It's pretty amazing that you can have one person jigging up mega-kings at the same time as the other is getting blown away on a topwater stickbait!
To be able to pull in around 15 kingfish, almost all on topwater, with most of them around the 15kgs mark and one up in the mid 20's in one day was pretty special.

The potential there for topwater kingfish is really exciting, and the fact that it is so accessible makes it pretty irresistible. Can't wait till I'm back there next March.
It's good now knowing what gear works, and I'll also bring some light tackle and soft plastics for the snapper when we need a break from the kings.

thanks again, it was more than special!

Malcolm

I always carry the spool in my main luggage - never had an issue going to different places but heard horror stories about a guy stripping a 50W in the airport!

Watch the hand luggage weight too!

When Travelling to Noumea or anywhere else, the spools go into the main luggaged some where in the middle of all the clothing, wrapped in socks or undis or small hand towels that i would use on the trip and the bodies i carry with me in a back pack and have never been questioned,i keep any eye on the man who looks at the screen and he pa they have always paused and looked but never opened up my bags at all,i have had a few mates been pulled up for carrying there spools with them in there back pack and have been told to strip all there line off,as they would be thinking there would be some kind of substance packed behind all the line, just imagine all you Varivas on the floor or wrapped around a bottle, full 200m or 300m...Since then the spools have gone in my luggage...

I flew to NADI in march, reels in carry on,spools in check in luggage.all good. When booking ask about "sporting goods luggage".when i checked in my rod tubes, this was not added to my total luggage weight,no extra cost :).Just reqest copy from airlines when booking to flights to show proof.I,ve used this on all my travels. After all rods are "SPORTS fishing goods" ;)
