WHERE TO GO IN 2010

I'm just looking for a few suggestions to head to next year. Jigging Doggies preferably but anything hard hitting on the jig is welcomed. any suggestions?

Jarrod - recommendations are very much dictated by price. If your objective is doggies and price is not a significant factor, then Diamond Islet with Nomad Sportfishing is the way to go. If you have budget restrictions, Vanuatu can be decent at times and you can get a reasonable rate for a charter. You will also get onto some really decent doggies in New Caledonia - the boys at Le Poisson Banane have landed some very nice fish and while their focus is primarily on GTs, they know where to find the doggies if that is what the client wants to do.

If you're really on a budget and are simply looking to get your arms stretched on jigs, then giving the samsons in Perth a go is worthwhile. Also, fishing for kingies in New Zealand can be great and will be cheaper than chasing doggies.

definitely a 5 day trip to the Ranfurly Banks or the 3 Kings of NZ. Due to the very favorable forex rate, NZ presents itself as highly attractive.

I agree with you there Chris, the Tree Kings is certainly on my Radar. Are the Ranfurly's more a mixed species destination and the Three Kings more 'Monstar Class' [are you listening Brandon & Tac] Kingies?

NZ in 2 weeks, Jigging social comp out of Tauranga ;D, I hope to fish White Island while some boats might try the Ranfuly Banks if the weather suites.
  I hear you are in our group for Elusive Reef next year Brock, I hope we get in a jig there for a Doggie or two as Pete and Tac don't mind a jig either.

Both locations have similar sized residents - large.  The 3 Kings is a 5hr drive north of Auckland then a 14hr boat trip.  You have an excellent shot at stripies on the way.  The Ranfurly is a 3.5hr drive to Whakatane then a 12hr boat trip.   It is hard to pick which is the better destination but I would pick the 3 Kings because of the diversity of the fishing grounds.  Jigging the white water around West Island is rod busting action that brings me back every year.

I often wonder that myself but after 9 trips to these locations.  If you are just interested in kingies and Hapuka, then I call it a draw.  If you want a mix of Marlin, Mahi, Tuna then the 3 Kings is the place.

Would be nice to see some of you Aussie guns over here getting arms stretched.

I've done 5 4 trips to the kings this year and cant wait to get back again when marlin aren't on the mind. The popping opportunity's as well as the white water jigging around the princess group is endless. Then you get to the king bank :o A friend even managed to hook(and lost) a striped marlin on a jig this year fishing on board oracle..... probably not too many places in the world you could get away with that.

hi,

I am very new to the sport, but on my one and only jigging/popping trip (so far..!) so far, i would recommend Nosy Be (madagascar) as a little known location. Huge diversity of species - i managed 4 GT's over 50 kg's in one trip, including a beauty over 60 kgs..! There are doggies about, but not as big as elsewhere. As for the rest - plenty of pelagics - sailies, marlin etc..

Will be chasing doggies at Christmas Island this year. Looking forward to it. A 1 week trip.
