Kadavu Dogtooth on Golden Eagle
« on: July 28, 2010, 11:57:40 AM »
Last week we visited the Cape Washington Seamount for the first time since April and it was alive with yellowfin, wahoo, baitfish and most importantly dogtooth. Our guests were jigging for dogtooth while watching wahoo flying 20ft in the air feeding on tuna. Everyone managed to catch and lose dogtooth on jigs before the wahoo took up residence under the boat refusing to let a jig past, the wahoo were so thick that when our guys lost one they would hook another while winding in and dont they scream on braid. We were forced to use the downrigger and caught a couple more dogtooth on large baits before heading back to Kadavu for some popping (see GT reports).

Anyone interested in fishing Fiji please contact me by PM or email gtrinkler@bigpond.com

Nice catch you got there, esp the dogtooth.  :)
When is the best jigging season in Fiji?

a dumb question as i am not sure but i am guessing the answer is and will be yes, are those fish any good to eat?

Hey Sam,

That is an opakapaka, or rosy jobfish, I believe (same scientific name but different common names). We caught quite a few in Fiji though none quite that big that is a nice specimen.

I believe they are highly regarded table fish though we were too busy eating wahoo, spanish mackerel and dogtooth tuna to find out, which is a nice problem to have  :D
