Twisted Leader

The twisted leader provides a great 'shock absorber' and an almost seamless connection to the mainline. A twisted leader is made by doubling and twisting a single strand shock leader. A correctly made twisted leader is considered one of the best leader setups to connect mainline to lure for GT popping applications.

Other Notes

  • There is no need to make a twisted leader out of fluorocarbon. When popping, the leader is almost always out of the water rendering fluorocarbon expensively unnecessary.
  • If you are using stickbaits where the leader will be submerged, you can attach a 'bite' leader made of fluorocarbon. Instead of twisting the twisted leader back up itself (step 5), take a single strand of fluorocarbon shock leader and do a uni-to-uni/nail knot to the two strands of the twisted leader end (be careful not to let it unravel!). You can also crimp the fluorocarbon shock leader to the twisted leader.
